AC residents to receive free eye surgery

The Angeles LGU led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. and Pampanga First District Rep. Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II will offer free cataract operations anew under the program dubbed “Aslag ning Pagasa” this month to visually-impaired residents who need immediate eye care.

Thru Memorandum No. 1445, series of 2021, Mayor Lazatin in October last year announced the free cataract operation.

It is a joint project of Mayor Lazatin Jr. and Rep. Lazatin II that aims to assist senior citizens with eye problems.

At least 21 patients had already been treated since the start of the free cataract operations in November last year involving senior citizens.

Some 132 patients are awaiting operations to remove their cataracts in a bid to improve their vision.

The pre-assessed patients for the free cataract operation will be picked up from their homes by the city government thru the Gender and Development Office, according to Mina Cabiles.

Cabiles said initial check-ups are being done at the Holy Family Medical Center, the city’s partner health institution.

“Kami po mismo sa GAD ang tatawag sa bawat pasyente para sa kanilang sundo at check-up,” Cabiles said. GAD will also inform the patients of the “schedule of operation,” she added.

Cabiles said that since its launching in October 2021, 377 Angeleños have signed up and underwent initial check-ups.

“The process is, their signed up forms will be submitted by their respective Rural Health Units to the GAD office, and then scheduled by GAD staff for their initial check-ups to be assessed by doctors of partnered health institutions,” Cabiles explained.

“Ang bilin po ni Mayor Lazatin, tayo po ang susundo at maghahatid sa kanila once naka-schedule na sila for check-up and operation,” she added.

Chief Adviser IC Calaguas said application forms of residents who wish to avail of the health service will be collected by GAD staff from the six Rural Health Units and 28 sub-health centers.
