Farm-to-mill road in Porac now complete

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A 0.385-kilometer farm-to-mill road in barangay San Jose Mitla in Porac town, worth P6.9-million, has been completed bytheDepartment of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Pampanga 2nd District Engineering Office.

The project was funded by the Sugar Regulatory Administration, the DPWH said.

“The elevated road benefits the cassava and sugarcane farmers as they no longer have to go through the dirt road leading to their barangay,” District Engineering Gregorio Audea Jr. said.

“Roads used to be just pathways shaped from lahar deposits generated from the explosion of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991 that were easily destroyed by heavy rains which sometimes runoff into the farms and damage their crops,” he shared.

“Although the current health crisis has affected their livelihood, residents believe that once the economy recovers, the farm-to-mill road will greatly benefit them,” Audea added.

The project also includes the installation of single arm posts with streetlights along the constructed road to ensure the safety of commuters and pedestrians using the road at night.
