35 kids with special needs in AC get vaccinated
ANGELES CITY – A total of 35 kids with special needs received their vaccines against COVID-19 at the Angeles Elementary School through the Vax Ambulance on February 23, 2022.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. aims to bring vaccines closer and accessible to the people, especially to Angeleños who belong to the sector with special conditions.
“Binibigyan po natin ng prayoridad ang lahat ng miyembro ng komunidad upang mabigyan ng proteksyon laban sa virus,” Lazatin said.
After their vaccination, Lazatin shared, they will take home a variety of treats by the city such as balloons, candies, and cupcakes. There are also loot bags with vitamins, paracetamol, and coloring pens and pads.
Prior to the vaccination, Gender and Development Officer Mina Cabiles personally went to the AES for a coordination meeting regarding the vaccination of the children with special needs.
Initially, there were only 25 kids confirmed to receive the vaccines, but before the day of the vaccination, there were an additional 10 children whose parents allowed them to be vaccinated, Cabiles said.
“Ang age group po na binakunahan nating mga bata ay nasa 5 to 17,” Cabiles added.
Further, there are also on-site pediatrician-volunteers, led by Dr. Lea Yap-Angeles, during the vaccination to ensure the health and safety of the kids before inoculation.
According to City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra, the initiative to conduct the vaccination at the AES is to avoid unfamiliar location for the kids which may create anxiety, discomfort, or distress.
“Pfizer vaccine po ang bakuna na ibinigay natin para sa kanila. The ones allowed by the Department of Health,” Dr. Guevarra explained.
“In this time of pandemic, bakuna po ang solusyon bilang proteksyon,” she added.
