DENR, golf club ink MOA on arboretum project
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has inked a Memorandum of Agreement with Beverly Place Golf and Country Club, Inc. (BPGCCI) in Brgy. Sabanilla, Mexico town for the implementation of an arboretum project within their golf courses.
DENR Undersecretary Atty. Juan Miguel Cuna, Regional Executive Director Engr. Paquito T. Moreno Jr., and PENR Officer Laudemir S. Salac were present in the event along with partners Board Member and Chairman, Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Atty. Jun Canlas, PGENR Officer Engr. Arthur Punsalan, General Manager of BPGCCI Elson Alvaran, and Director for Environment of Sta. Lucia Foundation Vincent Santos.
The project targets to grow native and/or endemic tree species that are increasingly under threat due to changing weather conditions and illegal logging that are disrupting their growth in forest lands.
Numerous tree species will be planted in areas along the golf course that will be an outdoor museum of the organic oxygen-machines, which will not only enhance the scenery but also serve as an opportunity for research of these trees for better conservation for present and future generations.
Narra and Bamboo seedlings donated by PENRO Pampanga and PGENR Office respectively were planted during the initial planting phase of the project, but other tree species e.g. Bitaog, Ilang-ilang, Molave, Balitbitan, Banaba and Fire Tree will also be planted.
