Tarlac Agri U tops PH SUCs in sustainability performance

CAMILING, Tarlac — Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) bested other Philippine state universities and colleges (SUCs) in terms of sustainability performance, according to the UI Green Metric World University Rankings. 

The UI Green Metric World University Rankings, led by Universitas Indonesia, aims to assess the current condition and policies to green campus and sustainability in global universities. 

In its first attempt to join the global list, TAU garnered a total of 6,900 points and claimed the roster’s 261st place. 

“This milestone proves that we, at TAU, are on the right direction towards our vision of becoming one of the Top 500 universities in Asia,” TAU President Max Guillermo said. 

He noted that TAU will further embrace green technology and promote conservation of resources as it transitions to a smart university.

Among the criteria and indicators were the higher education institutions’ (HEIs) setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste water, transportation, and education and research. 

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas bagged the first rank among Philippine Universities as 182nd placer with 7,235 points.  

Other universities recognized in the rankings were De La Salle University Manila (226th); Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (525th); Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan (659th); Ateneo de Davao University (663rd); Manila Central University (717th); Bataan Peninsula University (736th); and Foundation University (899th).

Meanwhile, TAU External Linkages and International Affairs Director Christine Ferrer stressed the collaboration of TAU with international rankings including the World’s Universities with Real Impact, which assesses the societal contributions of HEIs. 

“TAU is onboard with the United Nations in making the 2030 Agenda a reality. We will continue to adopt different sustainability measures to ensure a better future for the next generation of TAUinians,” Ferrer added.
