200 athletes join 2021 National Duathlon Trials at Clark
CLARK FREEPORT – More than 200 athletes joined the 2021 National Duathlon Trials at this Freeport, the first public sporting event held after 20 months since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) organized the event in partnership with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), its subsidiary Clark Development Corporation, and other sponsors.
TRAP said the event provides a boost to economic recovery amid the declining COVID-19 cases in the country.
BCDA Senior Vice President for Corporate Services Arrey Perez joined the race to express his support for the event and to promote sports tourism amid the pandemic.
The race course included the 900-meter iconic Sacobia Bridge for the bike leg, the first time that the bridge was used for any public event.
Perez said the bridge will reduce travel time between New Clark City and other Clark districts to 15 minutes once it opens in 2022 and will form part of up to 100 kilometers of interconnected bike lanes at the Clark Freeport Zone and New Clark City.
