CDC exec named as Mapua’s outstanding alumnus for environmental engineering

CLARK FREEPORT – The Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) Alumni Association has recognized an executive of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) as its outstanding alumnus in the field of environmental engineering.
Engr. Rogelio Magat, manager of CDC’s Environmental Permits Division (EPD), was acknowledged for demonstrating “excellence and integrity in his chosen field of endeavor which contributed to the welfare of his profession, the community, and the country.”
MIT CE-EnSE Alumni Association Inc. President Engr. Adam Abinales, and 1st Vice President and Homecoming Chair Engr. Jose Fernandez III conferred the said award to Magat during the 32nd Grand Alumni Virtual Homecoming organized by MIT Civil Engineer-Environmental Sanitary Engineer (CE-EnSE) Alumni Association Inc.
In a short statement, Magat expressed his gratitude for receiving the award and dedicated his achievement to his family and colleagues in CDC.
“I want to share this award to my family including the CDC family, Team-EPD, friends, and fellow environmental stewards for their full support, especially CDC management. Without their support, we can only do a little. They let me and my team spread our wings to cover as much as we can to fight the negative effects of Climate Change. I do hope that these recognitions will serve as an inspiration to others – if my work can make a difference, so can yours,” he said.
Magat holds two licenses – a certified civil engineer and a registered environmental and sanitary engineer. He graduated from MIT with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1989 and another degree in environmental and sanitary engineering in 1990. In the same year, he passed both Board Examinations for his degrees.
As a manager of CDC-EPD, he led and initiated various programs to preserve the environment in the Clark Freeport. These include Ban on Single-Use Plastics and Promotion on the Use of Environment-friendly Alternatives, the Accreditation Program for the disposal of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Wastes, the Development of Urban Forests, and a CDC Hybrid Eco-Park among others. He is also one of the proponents for the formation of the Sacobia Watershed Management Council, and as a strong supporter for encouraging LGUs in Central Luzon to hold Recyclables and Hazardous Waste Collection Events.
A true advocate of environmental preservation, he is affiliated with various organizations that are focused on environmental preservation, sustainability, and development. These include Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers, Inc. (PSSE) and the Environmental Practitioners Association of the Philippines (EPA) among others. He also serves as a life-long Adviser to the EPA after completing his 3-year consecutive term as President. Since 2016, he has served as the National Director of the PSSE. Recently, he was also recognized as a “Fellow” of the PSSE during its 2021 Annual National Convention.
