NCC cited by UN, UK agency as ‘trailblazer for sustainability’

CLARK – The UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (UK FCDO), UK Built Environment Advisory Group (UKBEAG) and UN Habitat’s City-to-City Knowledge Exchange has featured the transformation of New Clark City (NCC) from a former US military base into the Philippines’ first smart, resilient and green metropolis.

To accelerate the transformation of #NewClarkCity, #BCDA and UK FCDO are setting up a sustainability unit to facilitate the development of activities on urban planning, disaster resilience, urban design, landscape architecture and sustainable development goals.

The move to create a sustainability unit for New Clark City earned praise from global subject matter experts during the City-to-City Knowledge Exchange in November.

“(New Clark City) is a very ambitious and exemplary project. It’s doubly remarkable because all of these are happening during a global pandemic. It’s particularly pleasing to see how far it has come,” said UKBEAG Strategic Adviser Peter Oborn.

“It is great to see the progress that has been made on this project and the thinking that has been put behind regarding how you sort of integrate various functions,” said Astrid Haas, council member of Cities that Work, International Growth Centre, UK.

“We really hope that the BCDA and New Clark City can be pioneers for projects that used green financing and that model be replicated in all other cities in the Philippines,” said Cherrie Nuez, adviser for Global Future Cities Programme for the Philippines.
